Scout Report
When a 6-11 center from small-town Kentucky lands at his home state powerhouse, expectations run sky-high from day one.
Background
Malachi Moreno grew up in Georgetown, Kentucky, just an hour down the road from Lexington. He developed his game at Great Crossing High School, where his combination of size and skill caught the attention of college scouts early. The local kid made good, earning that coveted Kentucky offer and staying home to play for the Wildcats.
Playing Style
Moreno brings legitimate size at 6-11 with the frame to add more bulk as he matures in college. His footwork in the post shows promise, though he's still learning to use his length consistently on both ends. The touch around the rim is developing, but he'll need to expand his range and improve his conditioning to maximize minutes at the college level. Defensively, he has the wingspan to alter shots, but positioning and help defense concepts require refinement against faster, more athletic competition.
Recruitment
Moreno's recruitment ended when Kentucky came calling, and he enrolled early to get a head start on college basketball. As the #22 player nationally in the 2025 class, he has the tools to develop into a significant contributor for the Wildcats. His ceiling depends on how quickly he adapts to the speed and physicality of SEC play.
