Scout Report

The ball barely leaves his hands before you know it's going in. That kind of shooting confidence separates good scorers from special ones, and Alex Lloyd has been making defenders pay for leaving him open since he stepped onto the EYBL circuit.

Background

Lloyd grew up in Fort Lauderdale, where basketball is a year-round obsession and the talent pool runs deep. Westminster Academy has become his launching pad, a program that knows how to develop shooting guards for the next level. His EYBL experience with runs at Peach Jam has put him in front of every major college coach in the country, competing against the best guards his age has to offer. South Florida has produced plenty of elite scorers, and Lloyd is carrying on that tradition.

Playing Style

Lloyd plays with the patience of a veteran scorer who understands when to hunt his shot and when to let the game come to him. He's most dangerous working off screens and in catch-and-shoot situations, but he's not just a spot-up threat. His handle is solid enough to attack closeouts and create his own look when the defense overplays his jumper. Defensively, he uses his 6-3 frame well to contest shots and has good instincts for jumping passing lanes. He plays with pace rather than speed, making smart reads and rarely forcing bad shots. The kid understands spacing and how to move without the ball to create advantages for his teammates.

Strengths

His shooting stroke is pure, with consistent mechanics and range that extends well beyond the three-point line. Lloyd has that rare ability to shoot off movement, coming off pin-downs and flare screens with the same accuracy he shows on spot-ups. His basketball IQ shows up in his shot selection and willingness to make the extra pass when defenses scramble to find him. At 6-3, he has the size to shoot over smaller guards and the skill to step around bigger defenders trying to close out hard.

Areas to Watch

Strength and physicality will be key areas for development as he transitions to college basketball. Adding muscle to his frame would help him finish through contact and defend stronger wings at the next level. His ability to create off the dribble is solid but could use refinement to become a true three-level scorer in the SEC.

Player Comparison

He reminds me of a young Duncan Robinson with his shooting ability and court awareness, but Lloyd has better natural size and athleticism. Like Robinson, he understands how to use screens and movement to create clean looks, and he has that same confident release that makes coaches trust him in big moments. The projection is there for similar impact as a high-level college scorer.

Recruitment

Lloyd locked up his commitment to Florida early, giving the Gators a cornerstone piece for their 2026 recruiting class. His national ranking at #44 reflects the respect he's earned on the EYBL circuit, where he's consistently performed against elite competition. The early commitment allows him to focus on development rather than the recruiting process, which should benefit both him and the Gators program. Florida beat out several other programs who were tracking his progress throughout the summer.

Projection

Lloyd projects as a rotation player who can provide instant offense at the college level, with the shooting ability to earn significant minutes as a freshman. His ceiling is as a go-to scorer for a high-major program, and his floor is a valuable role player who can stretch defenses. Professional basketball isn't out of the question if he continues developing his all-around game and adds the physicality needed to compete at the highest levels.
