Scout Report
The 6-6 wing from North Carolina has already made the leap to college basketball, trading his high school jersey for Marquette gold and blue.
Background
Hailing from Raleigh, North Carolina, Michael Phillips II developed his game at Grace Christian School before making his commitment to Marquette. The small forward caught the attention of college scouts through his combination of size and skill at the prep level. His journey from North Carolina to the Big East represents a significant step up in competition as he transitions from high school standout to college contributor.
Playing Style
Phillips II brings prototypical small forward size at 6-6 with the versatility to impact multiple facets of the game. His frame allows him to defend multiple positions while providing enough length to be disruptive in passing lanes. At the college level, he's working to refine his perimeter shooting consistency and develop the physicality needed to compete against older, stronger opponents. His basketball IQ and willingness to make the extra pass suggest he could develop into a valuable role player within Marquette's system as he gains experience.
Recruitment
Now enrolled at Marquette after being ranked #137 nationally in the 2025 recruiting class, Phillips II is focused on carving out his role within the Golden Eagles' rotation. His development trajectory will largely depend on how quickly he adapts to the speed and physicality of college basketball. The coaching staff likely views him as a long-term project with the tools to contribute significantly as he matures.
