When you assemble the kind of talent La Lumiere has this season, somebody has to be willing to do the dirty work. Jacob Webber might be the program's most underrated piece, a skilled forward who makes everyone around him better while quietly putting up his own numbers.
Background
Webber made the move from Kearney, Nebraska to Indiana's premier basketball factory, a significant step up in competition that has clearly paid dividends. The 6-6 forward comes from a basketball family with his brother Jacob also playing at the college level. Webber plays with an old-school mentality in a modern forward's body. Adding more explosive first-step quickness would help him create better looks off the dribble and become less dependent on catch-and-shoot opportunities. His handle needs refinement to consistently attack closeouts and create for teammates in half-court sets. Continuing to add strength will help him finish through contact more consistently around the basket.

His game has shades of Sam Hauser from Virginia and Boston, a skilled forward who can shoot from range while providing solid defense and rebounding. Both players share that ability to impact winning without being the primary option, though Webber shows more defensive versatility at this stage. The comparison works because both understand how to play within a system while bringing legitimate skills that translate at higher levels.
Recruitment
Webber's commitment to Purdue makes perfect sense given Matt Painter's track record with developing skilled forwards who can stretch the floor. The Boilermakers beat out a solid group of programs including Tennessee and Arizona State for his signature. His relationship with the coaching staff and the program's recent success likely played major roles in his decision. The early commitment should allow him to focus on development rather than the recruitment process during his final high school seasons.

At Purdue, Webber projects as a versatile role player who could develop into a consistent starter by his junior season.
