Twenty-two Division I programs don't line up for a 6-1 point guard by accident. Anthony Brown spent his recruitment fielding offers from the SEC, Big Ten, Big 12 and Big Ten-adjacent Big East, and when the dust settled, he picked Vanderbilt.
Background
Brown comes out of Washington, DC, one of the most productive basketball talent pools on the East Coast. He plays his high school ball at Archbishop Carroll, a program with a long history of sending guards to the high-major level. Growing up in the DMV means growing up in a guard-driven basketball culture, where the pace is fast and the competition is physical. That environment tends to produce ball handlers who are tough, comfortable in a crowd, and used to being tested every night. Brown carries that profile into college as the #84 player in the class of 2026.
Playing Style
Brown fits the mold of a lead guard who runs the offense rather than just filling a spot in it. Brown is committed to Vanderbilt, having held 22 D1 offers that included UCF, Indiana, Villanova, Maryland, Texas Tech, Oklahoma State and Mississippi State, plus 14 more. Choosing Vanderbilt over that group means picking a school that likely saw a real path to early playing time and a defined role in its backcourt. Landing a top-100 guard out of the DC area is a solid win for a program in the SEC, where guard play often decides the season. The commitment removes any uncertainty about where he ends up.
Projection
The most realistic outcome is a rotation guard at Vanderbilt who runs the second unit early and grows into a bigger role as he adds strength and experience. The range runs from a steady, reliable college point guard to a multi-year starter who helps anchor the program. A pro path, whether overseas or through the G League, is possible if his shooting and physical development trend the right way, but the college role is the more predictable outcome, and that is a good one.
