Scout Report

There's something special about watching a 6-6 wing who moves like he's three inches shorter. When that same kid can handle the basketball in traffic and has the court vision to find teammates, you start circling dates on your calendar.

Background

Chester, Pennsylvania has produced its share of basketball talent over the years, and Kevin Thomas represents the latest in that tradition. The small forward made the move to Sagemont Prep in Florida to elevate his game against elite competition, a decision that's clearly paid dividends. Playing alongside Matt Able, the 23rd-ranked prospect in the 2025 class who's headed to NC State, Thomas has been able to develop his game in a high-level environment daily. That exposure to top-tier talent has accelerated his development and helped him earn recognition as the 78th-ranked player nationally in his class.

Playing Style

Thomas plays with a controlled aggression that's rare in today's AAU culture. He doesn't hunt his own shot at the expense of the offense, instead reading defenses and making the right play more often than not. In transition, he's a legitimate threat to push the pace himself or find teammates in advantageous spots. His basketball IQ shows up consistently in how he spaces the floor and moves without the ball. Defensively, he uses his length well and has the lateral quickness to guard multiple positions. The kid doesn't take possessions off, which coaches absolutely love when they're breaking down tape.

Strengths

The combination of size and skill is what separates Thomas from other wings in his class. At 6-6, he can see over defenders and make passes that shorter guards simply can't execute. His handle is advanced enough to initiate offense and attack closeouts effectively. What really catches your eye is his decision-making under pressure. He rarely forces shots or throws passes into traffic, showing a maturity that suggests he'll adapt quickly to college basketball.

Areas to Watch

The jump shot consistency will determine how high his ceiling goes at the next level. While his mechanics look solid, adding range and improving his catch-and-shoot percentage would make him nearly unstoppable. Building more functional strength without losing his mobility will also help him finish through contact more consistently.

Player Comparison

There's some Mikal Bridges in his game, though Thomas is more willing to put the ball on the floor. Both players share that long, rangy build and the ability to impact winning without needing 20 shots. The defensive versatility and basketball IQ are similar, though Thomas has more playmaking ability at this stage of development.

Recruitment

LSU won the recruiting battle for Thomas early, securing his commitment despite serious interest from programs like Florida State, Miami, and Auburn. Coach Matt McMahon and his staff clearly sold Thomas on his role in their system and the opportunity to contribute immediately. With 15 D1 offers on the table, Thomas could have gone anywhere, but LSU's vision for how to use his versatility ultimately won out. The early commitment gives him time to focus on development rather than the recruiting circus.

Projection

Thomas profiles as a day-one contributor at LSU with the potential to be a four-year starter if his shot continues developing. His floor is that of a solid role player who can guard multiple positions and make winning plays. The ceiling is much higher if the jumper becomes consistent, potentially putting him in NBA draft conversations down the line.
