Scout Report

A 6-foot-7 power forward from Chicago who picked his college before most of his class had narrowed a list. That says something about his conviction. It also says something about how Arizona State sees him.

Background

Williams comes out of Chicago, one of the deepest talent pipelines in the country, where bigs learn to play physical early and nobody hands out credit for free. He now plays at Dynamic Prep, a program loaded with high-level names, and that matters for how he's evaluated. Sharing a roster with Blaze Johnson, a 2028 point guard ranked #15, Gabe Nesmith, a 2027 wing ranked #19 who is committed to Vanderbilt, and Tyler Sutton, a 2028 combo guard ranked #54, means he is tested against high-level teammates every day in practice. He also doesn't have to carry the offense to be seen. That's a useful test for any forward who wants to prove he can fit into a winning group.

Playing Style

At 6-foot-7, Williams fits the mold of the modern four man. He is a little undersized for the traditional back-to-the-basket role, so his value comes from fitting into a lineup built around guards who can create. Playing next to ball handlers like Johnson and Nesmith puts him in the pick-and-roll and short-roll game, in transition, and on the offensive glass, where a forward's activity gets rewarded. Decisions come quickly in that setting. Catch, read the defense, attack or move the ball. A forward who thrives there usually has a good feel for spacing and timing, and that's what a coach should look for on tape. On defense, a 6-7 forward lives or dies by positioning, effort and the ability to guard multiple spots. Teams at the next level will want him switching on the perimeter and holding his ground against bigger bodies in the paint. The sample here is limited, and the full picture takes live evaluation. But the role he's built for is clear. He is a connector and a physical presence who does the dirty work around the stars.

Strengths

The first thing is the résumé. A #53 national ranking in the class of 2027 and a list of high-major offers is not an accident. Florida State, California, Mississippi State, South Carolina and Illinois all saw something worth pursuing, and those staffs know what a productive forward looks like. Second is the environment. He is playing every day with teammates who are ranked well above him in some cases, and he has held his place in that rotation. Third is the size-and-position fit. Six-foot-seven is a workable height for a modern power forward, especially one who can move his feet and play in space. The finishing touch is his commitment. Choosing Arizona State and shutting down his recruitment shows he knows what he wants.

Areas to Watch

The big question for any 6-7 power forward is how his game translates against true size in college. Strength, rebounding against longer bodies and rim protection without elite length will decide how much he plays early. If he can add a reliable perimeter shot or a more polished face-up game, he becomes much harder to defend and much harder to take off the floor.

Player Comparison

There isn't a clean comparison to make from what's available, and forcing one would be lazy. The archetype is a physical, high-activity combo forward who earns minutes through toughness, versatility and fit. That is the role to watch for him at Arizona State.

Recruitment

The recruitment is done. Williams is committed to Arizona State, and he walked away from offers from Florida State, California, Mississippi State, South Carolina and Illinois to get there. That's a significant group of programs, and it shows how much he was wanted across several conferences. As a 2027 prospect he has his senior season at Dynamic Prep still to play, so the next stretch is about staying healthy, producing and holding his ranking. Arizona State is getting a forward whom other staffs also wanted.

Projection

The most realistic outcome is a rotation forward at Arizona State who earns time with energy, toughness and versatility, then grows into a larger role as his body and skill set develop. The range is wide. If the perimeter game develops, he could become a starter-level piece in a high-major league. If it stalls, he stays a role player who contributes in specific lineups. A pro path would likely run through a strong college career and a trade-off between size and skill, so it's too early to call it anything more than a possibility.
