Scout Report
When you find a 6-4 shooting guard who can fill it up from deep and has college coaches already circling, you stop and take notice. Bryce Curry is making that happen as just a sophomore at Lakota West, sitting at #124 nationally in the loaded 2027 class.
Background
West Chester, Ohio isn't exactly a basketball hotbed, but Curry has found his way onto the national radar from this Cincinnati suburb. At Lakota West, he's developed into one half of a dangerous backcourt duo alongside Joshua Tyson, the #55 ranked combo guard in their class. The program has given both players the platform to showcase their skills against quality competition throughout Ohio. His rise through the grassroots scene has caught the attention of Division I programs looking for pure shooting at the next level.
Playing Style
Curry plays with the calm confidence of a shooter who knows the next one is going in. He's most dangerous in catch-and-shoot situations, where his quick release and high arc create problems for defenders trying to contest. His 6-4 frame allows him to shoot over smaller guards while maintaining good balance through his shooting motion. He understands spacing and finds ways to relocate when the ball moves, constantly putting pressure on defenses to account for his range. On the defensive end, he uses his length effectively and shows solid awareness in help situations. His basketball IQ translates to both ends, making the right reads and rarely forcing bad shots even when his stroke is on.
Strengths
The shooting ability is legitimate and the foundation of everything good in his game. Curry has deep range that extends well beyond the college three-point line, and his mechanics are sound enough to translate against better athletes. He's not just a spot-up threat either - he can come off screens and fire quickly, making him valuable in structured offense. His size for the position gives him natural advantages, and he's smart about using every inch of his frame to create clean looks.
Areas to Watch
The next step is expanding his offensive game beyond shooting. Can he create his own shot off the dribble consistently against elite defenders? Adding a reliable pull-up game and improving his ability to finish through contact around the rim would make him much harder to game-plan against.
Player Comparison
There are shades of Duncan Robinson in his game - a tall shooter who understands his role and executes it at a high level. Like Robinson, Curry has the size to shoot over contests and the basketball IQ to find open spots on the floor. The key difference will be whether he can develop more creation ability than Robinson showed in college.
Recruitment
With four D1 offers already including Cincinnati, Kent State, Duquesne, and Xavier, Curry is building solid momentum for a sophomore. The Cincinnati and Xavier interest makes sense given his Ohio roots and the local connection. Programs are getting involved early because shooters like this don't stay available long. Expect the offer list to grow significantly as he continues developing, with mid-major and lower-tier high-major programs leading the charge.
Projection
At the college level, he projects as a role player who can contribute immediately if his shot is falling. His ceiling depends on how much he develops as a creator, but even as primarily a shooter, he'll have value in the right system. Professional basketball could be in play if he maximizes his physical tools and continues improving his all-around game.
