Scout Report

A 6-7 forward collecting Big 12 and Big Ten offers before he's even old enough to drive is the kind of thing that makes a scout double-check the birth year. Benjamin Berrouet has seven D1 offers sitting in his inbox as a member of the 2028 class, and Missouri just joined the list three weeks ago. The frame is already there. The rest is catching up fast.

Background

Berrouet plays out of McKinney, Texas, a hotbed that keeps producing D1 talent, and he's logging his reps at Dynamic Prep, a program built to get young guys real minutes against real competition early. Texas AAU circuits have given him exposure against older, more physical bodies, which explains why a sophomore-aged prospect already looks comfortable banging in the paint. The McKinney-to-Dynamic Prep pipeline has become a proving ground for forwards who need varsity-caliber reps before high school even demands it of them. Berrouet's name started circulating regionally before it went national, and the offer sheet backs up what scouts on the ground have been saying for a while now.

Playing Style

Berrouet operates as a modern four who's comfortable facing the rim or working with his back to the basket, and that versatility is what separates him from the typical big man at this stage. He runs the floor in transition with real purpose, not just jogging to fill a lane but sprinting to punish mismatches before defenses can set. In the post he shows feel — soft touch around the rim, patience to let a double-team commit before kicking out. Defensively, he's physical on the glass and uses his length to bother shots without fouling out of plays, which is rare for a player his age. His decision-making with the ball in space still has rough edges, but the instincts to make the simple pass over the forced one are already visible. Tempo-wise, he plays faster than most forwards his size, which creates matchup problems for slower bigs who can't keep up in the open floor.

Strengths

The motor is the first thing that jumps off tape — he's chasing loose balls and crashing the offensive glass on possessions where a lot of bigs his age coast. His touch around the rim with either hand already looks ahead of schedule, and he finishes through contact rather than shying away from it. Rebounding is a legitimate strength, both ends of the floor, and it comes from positioning as much as effort. Coaches watching tape see a frame that projects to fill out into a true power forward body without losing the mobility he has right now.

Areas to Watch

The jumper is still a work in progress — the mechanics are there, but consistency from mid-range out hasn't caught up to the rest of his game yet. Adding strength will matter more every year as he faces bigger, more physical post players at higher levels of competition. Refining his handle in space would open up more of his offense and let him attack off the bounce instead of relying mostly on cuts and post touches.

Player Comparison

His combination of rim-running, glass work, and developing face-up game brings to mind a young Jaren Jackson Jr. — not in polish, since Jackson came out of high school with a more finished shooting stroke, but in frame and the blend of mobility with physicality. Both are long forwards who affect winning with activity and timing rather than pure scoring volume at this stage. If the jumper rounds into form the way it did for Jackson, the ceiling comparison holds up.

Recruitment

Seven offers in for a 2028 prospect is a strong starting point, and the list is heavy on high-major programs — Arizona State, Iowa, NC State, Texas Tech, SMU, Pepperdine, and Sam Houston all in the mix already. Missouri's offer landing three weeks ago signals that the SEC is paying attention too, and that kind of momentum tends to snowball once more staffs start cross-checking film. With this much runway before a typical commitment timeline, expect the offer sheet to keep growing through his high school years as more programs get eyes on him in person. No commitment is imminent, and there's no reason for one to be — the leverage is all his right now.

Projection

At the college level, Berrouet projects as a forward who can impact winning through rebounding, rim-running, and interior scoring before his jumper fully rounds into shape. If the perimeter skills develop on schedule, he profiles as a high-major starter capable of stretching into a legitimate pro prospect down the line. The range of outcomes is wide this early — a physical, glass-eating role player on the low end, a versatile stretch four with NBA buzz on the high end — but the tools to reach the upper tier are already present.
