A 6-5 wing getting Stanford interest before he's old enough to drive isn't normal. Boss Mhoon is proof that the 2028 class in Northern California already has real juice, and he's one of the names pushing it.
Background
Mhoon is an Oakland kid through and through, raised in a city that's produced its share of tough, versatile guards and wings over the years. He landed at The King's Academy, a program that's increasingly becoming a pipeline for Bay Area talent looking for structure and exposure. His AAU circuit reps have put him in front of high-major coaches early, which is exactly how a freshman ends up with three D1 offers before high school basketball has really gotten going for him.
Playing Style
At 6-5, Mhoon already has the frame of a modern small forward — long enough to guard multiple positions, athletic enough to finish above the rim in transition. He plays with a calm pace for his age, not rushing into bad shots or forcing plays that aren't there. Defensively, his length lets him disrupt passing lanes and contest shots he has no business contesting as a freshman. He's comfortable attacking off the dribble in straight lines, using his first step to get downhill rather than settling for pull-ups. There's a feel to his game — reading cuts, hitting the open man — that usually takes longer to develop than it has for him. He's still filling out physically, but the tools are already pointing toward a wing who can do a little bit of everything.
Strengths
His length and mobility combo is the first thing that jumps off tape — he closes out on shooters and recovers in ways that bigger, slower forwards simply can't. Coaches like that he's not a ball-stopper; he moves the rock and plays within an offense instead of trying to take over every possession. He's also shown an ability to guard up a position, which at his age and size is a projectable trait scouts love to see. The motor is consistent possession to possession, which matters more than flash this early in a career.
Areas to Watch
Like most 2028 prospects, the jump shot is still a work in progress — the mechanics are there, but consistency from the perimeter will determine whether he's a slasher or a true three-level scorer down the road. Adding strength will help him finish through contact and hold up defensively against older, more physical wings as competition levels rise. Continued reps against top-tier talent on the AAU circuit should sharpen his decision-making in tighter windows.
Player Comparison
His frame and defensive versatility bring to mind a young Andre Iguodala-type wing — long, switchable, and more of a connector than a primary scorer early in his development. That comparison is more about role projection than polish; Mhoon still has years to add skill before anyone can say how close that ceiling actually is.
Recruitment
Three D1 programs — Stanford, Nevada, and San Diego — have already extended offers, which is notable given how early this is in Mhoon's high school career. Stanford's interest in particular signals that high-major evaluators see real long-term upside here, not just a kid who tested well at a camp. With three-plus years before a commitment decision actually needs to happen, expect this offer list to grow significantly as more programs get eyes on him through AAU season and his sophomore year at King's Academy. No real front-runner has separated yet, and it's far too early to read much into that.
Projection
The physical tools suggest a college rotation wing at minimum, with the versatility to guard multiple spots and contribute without needing the ball in his hands. If the jumper comes along as expected, he's got a shot at being a high-major starter by his junior or senior year of college. Pro trajectory is impossible to project this far out, but the defensive versatility and feel give him a realistic path to a legitimate college career regardless of how the shooting develops.
