Scout Report
Standing 6-9 with European fundamentals and court awareness beyond his years, this power forward brings international polish to the Fighting Illini frontcourt.
Background
David Mirkovic developed his basketball foundation at SC Derby, competing in one of Europe's most competitive youth basketball environments. His journey from international competition to American college basketball represents the global nature of modern recruiting. At SC Derby, he played alongside fellow Illinois commit Luka Bogavac, forming a dynamic duo that caught the attention of college scouts across the Atlantic.
Playing Style
Mirkovic possesses the versatile skill set typical of European-trained big men, combining solid fundamentals with basketball IQ that allows him to impact winning in multiple ways. His 6-9 frame gives him the size to compete in the paint while maintaining enough mobility to step away from the basket and contribute to perimeter play. He demonstrates good court vision for a player his size and shows the ability to make the right pass in traffic. While he brings strong fundamentals and basketball instincts, he'll need to continue adding strength and physicality to compete against the athletic big men in the Big Ten Conference.
Recruitment
Despite being ranked #132 nationally in the 2025 class, Mirkovic's commitment to Illinois represents a strategic international recruitment by Brad Underwood's staff. His European background and skill set project well for development within the Fighting Illini system, where his basketball IQ and versatility should complement the program's style of play.
