Scout Report

When your starting five includes multiple top-25 national recruits, the point guard running the show better be special.

Background

Hailing from Chatsworth, California, Gavin Hightower has developed into one of the premier floor generals in the loaded Sierra Canyon program. Playing for one of the nation's most talent-rich high school basketball programs, Hightower has been tasked with orchestrating an offense featuring multiple blue-chip prospects. His journey through the competitive Southern California basketball scene has prepared him for the highest levels of competition.

Playing Style

Hightower brings excellent size for the point guard position at 6-1, allowing him to see over defenders and create passing lanes that shorter guards cannot. His court vision and basketball IQ shine when directing traffic for a Sierra Canyon roster loaded with elite talent, as he consistently finds ways to get his teammates involved while managing tempo. The California native demonstrates solid decision-making under pressure and shows the composure necessary to run a high-level offense. While he may not possess elite athleticism, his understanding of the game and ability to make the right read in crucial moments make him an effective floor general.

Recruitment

Despite drawing interest from Power Five programs including Cal, Florida, USC, and Washington, Hightower ultimately committed to Iona, where he'll have the opportunity to make an immediate impact. His ability to step into a starting role and contribute right away likely factored into his decision to join the Gaels' program.
