Scout Report

When a 5-8 guard already has Cal and North Carolina calling before junior year, you know there's something special happening on the court.

Background

Scales plays his prep ball at Caldwell Academy, where he's developed into one of the more intriguing backcourt prospects in the 2026 class. He runs with a loaded supporting cast that includes 2027 point guard King Kendrick, ranked 117th nationally, and Wake Forest commit Jaylen Cross. That kind of talent around him has accelerated his development and given him a platform to show his skills against top competition.

Playing Style

Don't let the 5-8 frame fool you - Scales plays with the confidence of a much bigger guard. His shot creation ability is advanced for his age, consistently finding ways to get clean looks even when defenses key on him. The pull-up jumper is already a weapon, and he's comfortable shooting off movement or coming off screens. Where he needs to continue growing is on the defensive end, where his size naturally limits him against bigger guards. His court vision is solid but not elite yet - he's more scorer than distributor at this stage.

Recruitment

Two major offers from Cal and North Carolina before his junior season tells you everything about his trajectory. With another year and a half to develop, expect that offer list to grow significantly. His ceiling depends largely on how much his playmaking evolves and whether he can add the consistency that turns good guards into great ones.
