Scout Report
Iowa prep basketball continues to develop promising talent, with emerging prospects making their mark on the hardwood.
Background
Representing Northwest High School in Iowa, Marcus Kates is working to establish himself as a legitimate prospect in the Class of 2027. As an underclassman, he's gaining valuable varsity experience and beginning to showcase his abilities against quality competition. His development trajectory will be closely monitored as he navigates the crucial early stages of his high school career.
Playing Style
Kates demonstrates the ability to contribute offensively when given opportunities, showing he can find the basket in varsity competition. His scoring touch suggests developing basketball instincts and the confidence to take shots when his number is called. As a Class of 2027 prospect, he's still in the early stages of physical and skill development, with significant room for growth in all areas of his game. His current role appears to be as a complementary scorer who can provide offensive spark when needed.
Recruitment
With no reported offers at this stage, Kates is in the early phases of building his recruiting profile. As a sophomore-level prospect, he has ample time to develop his skills and gain exposure through continued varsity performance. His ceiling will largely depend on physical development and skill refinement over the next two years, with potential to attract interest from various levels of college basketball.
Stat Highlight
Kates contributed 10 points in a recent performance for Northwest, demonstrating his ability to make an offensive impact at the varsity level as an underclassman.
