Ken Novak
Head Coach
Ken Novak stands as one of Minnesota's most accomplished basketball coaches, bringing 44 years of experience to his role as head coach at Hopkins. He began his coaching career at Blaine in 1982 before taking over the Hopkins program in 1990, where he has built an unprecedented dynasty. Novak has guided his teams to a record 18 state tournament appearances and captured eight state championships (2002, 2005, 2006, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2016, and 2019), ranking second all-time behind former DeLaSalle coach Dave Thorson. His sustained excellence is evident in his remarkable streak of 20 or more wins for 28 consecutive years from 1993 to 2020. Currently on the verge of becoming only the third boys basketball coach in Minnesota history to reach 900 wins, Novak sits just 13 victories away from surpassing Bob McDonald's all-time state record of 1,012 coaching wins. His program has developed numerous collegiate and professional players, including current NBA stars Zeke Nnaji of the Denver Nuggets and Amir Coffey of the LA Clippers.
