Head Coach
Jim McCarthy serves as head basketball coach at Cheshire Academy, bringing decades of experience from both the collegiate and preparatory levels. Following his playing career at Hamilton College, McCarthy began his coaching journey at Williams College, where he captured a Division III national championship. He later advanced to the Division I ranks, coaching at Yale, Northeastern, and Towson universities before returning to preparatory school athletics. At Cheshire Academy, McCarthy has dedicated four decades to the Cats basketball program, serving in both assistant and head coaching roles. Under his leadership, the program achieved a WNEPSLA Division III championship in 1996. McCarthy now guides Cheshire Academy's teams in the highly competitive NEPSAC Class AA Division, widely regarded as one of the nation's premier preparatory basketball leagues. His extensive coaching background across multiple levels provides valuable expertise and perspective to the Academy's student-athletes as they pursue their basketball and academic goals.
