Scout Report

The 6-foot floor general from North Carolina has made a seamless transition from elite prep basketball to the SEC, bringing his court vision and leadership to the Gamecock backcourt.

Background

Hailing from Hickory, North Carolina, Ellis developed his game through the competitive prep circuit before landing at powerhouse Moravian Prep. At Moravian, he competed alongside elite talents like Kansas-bound Kohl Rosario and Iowa State commit Marcus Zelee, gaining valuable experience against top-tier competition. His journey through the AAU ranks and prep school circuit helped him earn recognition as a top-100 recruit in the 2025 class.

Playing Style

Ellis brings a traditional point guard skill set with excellent court vision and basketball IQ that allows him to orchestrate offensive sets effectively. At 6-0, he possesses good size for the position and uses his length well to see over defenders and thread passes into tight windows. His ability to read defenses and make quick decisions in transition sets him apart as a floor general. While not the most explosive athlete, Ellis compensates with smart positioning, solid fundamentals, and the poise needed to run a high-level offense against SEC competition.

Recruitment

Ellis committed to South Carolina and has already enrolled with the Gamecocks, where he projects as a developmental piece in their backcourt rotation. His high basketball IQ and leadership qualities should serve him well as he adjusts to the speed and physicality of SEC play. With proper development, he has the ceiling to become a reliable contributor and potentially a starter in the Gamecock system.
