Background
Kinney hails from Newport, Kentucky, a blue-collar town across the river from Cincinnati. The 6-1 guard made the jump to Overtime Elite, trading small-town Friday nights for the pressure cooker of elite prep basketball. Now he's running the show for one of the most talented rosters in the country.
Playing Style
This kid has that rare combination of size and court vision that makes college coaches drool. At 6-1, he can see over most defenders and has the length to finish through contact at the rim. His pick-and-roll reads are advanced for his age, and he's comfortable pushing pace in transition. The shot selection can get questionable when he's feeling himself, and his jumper needs more consistency from deep. But the basketball IQ is there, and he's got the type of competitive fire you want in your floor general.
Recruitment
Six major offers including Kansas, Arkansas, and Kentucky tell you everything about his upside. His commitment to Kansas puts him in Bill Self's system alongside fellow OTE teammate Javon Bardwell, giving the Jayhawks a nice pipeline from the program.
