Scout Report

When you're sharing the court with two future Kansas commits and holding your own, people start to pay attention. At 6-10 with defensive instincts that coaches dream about, this Georgia Tech commit is already proving that size without skill is just height.

Background

Atlanta has always been a basketball hotbed, and Moustapha Diop represents the latest wave of talent coming out of the metro area. The big man made the jump to Overtime Elite to test himself against elite competition and accelerate his development. Playing in OTE's structured environment has given him access to professional-level training and coaching while competing against some of the best prospects in the country. His decision to commit early to Georgia Tech keeps him close to home while joining a program that has shown they can develop big men for the next level.

Playing Style

Diop affects winning through defense first and foremost. His wingspan creates havoc around the rim, and he has the instincts to not just block shots but alter them without fouling. He moves well for his size and can switch on pick-and-rolls without getting completely lost. Offensively, he's still developing but shows flashes of becoming a legitimate two-way player. His hands are soft enough to catch passes in traffic, and he's starting to show some touch around the basket. The motor runs hot on both ends, which is something you can't teach a 6-10 kid.

Strengths

That wingspan is a legitimate weapon - he can contest shots from positions where shorter players have no chance. His defensive timing is already advanced for his age, knowing when to help and when to stay home. The two-way potential is real because he doesn't just camp in the paint offensively. He can face up and has shown he can handle the ball in short spurts, which makes him harder to game-plan against than your typical back-to-the-basket center.

Areas to Watch

The biggest question is how much his offensive game can expand over the next two years. He needs to add functional strength to handle college-level physicality in the paint. If he can develop a reliable mid-range shot and improve his footwork in the post, he goes from role player to difference-maker.

Player Comparison

He reminds me of a young Clint Capela - that same defensive instincts and timing around the rim, with the athleticism to guard multiple positions. Like Capela, his offensive ceiling depends on how much skill development happens, but the defensive foundation is already NBA-caliber. The two-way upside gives him a higher floor than traditional rim-runners.

Recruitment

Georgia Tech moved quickly and got their man, which was smart given the competition from Alabama and Auburn. The Yellow Jackets beat out two SEC programs that know how to recruit big men, which says something about both Diop's fit in their system and their evaluation skills. With his commitment locked in early, he can focus on development rather than the recruiting circus. Don't be surprised if more high-major programs come calling if he continues his trajectory at OTE.

Projection

At Georgia Tech, he should contribute immediately as a rim protector and energy player off the bench before developing into a starter by his sophomore year. The two-way potential gives him an outside shot at professional basketball if the offensive game continues developing. His defensive instincts and physical tools translate to any level - the question is whether he can become enough of a scoring threat to stick.
