Background
Betts grew up in Englewood, Colorado before making the jump to IMG Academy, a program built for kids who outgrow their hometown competition fast. At 7-3, there wasn't much choice but to leave — Colorado high school ball isn't built for a kid with his measurables. IMG surrounded him with a loaded frontcourt and backcourt, including fellow 2028 big Bamba Touray, giving him real practice reps against size every day instead of overwhelming mismatches.
Playing Style
Betts plays a patient, read-first brand of center ball rather than trying to bully smaller kids out of pure size advantage. He runs the floor in transition better than most bigs his age, which lets IMG push tempo even with two seven-footers on the roster. In the half-court, he operates mostly around the rim and short midrange, using length to finish over contests rather than through them. His offensive game needs a reliable face-up jumper to pair with the rim finishing, which would make him a real pick-and-pop weapon down the line. Free throw touch and consistency as a vocal communicator on defense are also areas IMG's staff will keep building.

His game profiles loosely like a young Walker Kessler — mobile rim protector first, offensive game still catching up to the frame. The appeal in both cases isn't flash, it's the rare combination of true seven-foot length with legitimate lateral quickness that most centers never have.
Recruitment
Betts already holds five D1 offers — Cal, Purdue, Washington, UNLV and Colorado — which is notable for a sophomore-aged 2028 prospect still two-plus years from signing. Colorado's presence makes sense given his Englewood roots, and that in-state tie could matter if things stay close down the stretch. Purdue's history developing bigs gives them a real case, but with this much time left before a decision, expect the offer list to balloon well past five schools. No commitment timeline has been set, and at this stage in the process, that's exactly how it should be.
Projection
The college ceiling here is a legitimate anchor center for a high-major program, someone who alters shots and runs the floor in a way that lets his team play faster than a typical two-big lineup would allow. Pro translation hinges almost entirely on whether the perimeter skill continues developing alongside the frame — rim protection and mobility alone can carry a college career, but the modern NBA wants seven-footers who can at least threaten from the elbow. Worst case, he's a high-major rotation big; best case, the shooting touch develops and he's a first-round conversation in a few years.
