Scout Report

When you have three players ranked in the top 60 nationally on your roster, finding shots can become a chess match. At Trinity in Atlanta, the 6-5 wing who quietly commands respect from coaches across the country has figured out how to thrive in that environment.

Background

Atlanta has always been a basketball hotbed, and Johnson grew up in that competitive environment where every summer league and pickup game matters. Trinity has become a pipeline for high-major talent, giving Johnson the chance to develop alongside elite competition daily. Playing with multiple five-star talents has forced him to carve out his identity early, learning to be effective without needing constant touches. The program's track record of developing wings for the next level made Trinity an obvious choice for his development.

Playing Style

Johnson plays with the measured approach of a player who understands his role but isn't limited by it. He reads defenses well in half-court sets, finding his spots off ball screens and making the extra pass when help comes. His decision-making rarely hurts his team - you won't see many forced shots or careless turnovers. Defensively, he uses his length to disrupt passing lanes and can guard multiple positions, switching seamlessly in pick-and-roll coverage. The pace never seems too fast for him, whether Trinity is running in transition or grinding through possession-heavy games. He impacts winning in ways that don't always show up in the box score.

Strengths

The shooting stroke is legitimate - smooth mechanics with range that extends beyond the college three-point line. He has that rare ability to catch and shoot off movement, coming around screens already in rhythm. His basketball IQ shows up consistently in game situations, making the right play under pressure and understanding when to be aggressive versus when to facilitate. At 6-5, he has the size to finish over smaller guards while maintaining the agility to stay with quicker players on defense.

Areas to Watch

Creating his own shot off the dribble remains a work in progress - he's more effective as a catch-and-shoot threat than breaking down defenders in isolation. Adding more explosion to his first step would open up driving lanes and make him harder to guard in one-on-one situations. Developing that mid-range pull-up game would give him another weapon when the three-point line isn't open.

Player Comparison

There are shades of Buddy Hield in his approach - a wing who impacts games primarily through shooting but with enough basketball IQ to contribute in multiple ways. Like Hield, Johnson understands how to move without the ball and create quality looks for himself within the offense. Both players maximize their opportunities rather than forcing the action, making them valuable pieces for any system.

Recruitment

Landing Indiana over programs like Cincinnati, Missouri, and Notre Dame shows Johnson sees opportunity in Bloomington under Mike Woodson's system. The Hoosiers have done well developing wings recently, and Johnson fits their need for reliable perimeter shooting. With 14 D1 offers already, he had options but chose Indiana early in the process, giving the coaching staff time to build around his commitment. His decision should help Indiana land other pieces for the 2026 class.

Projection

Johnson projects as a rotation player who can contribute immediately as a freshman, with the ceiling of a starter by his sophomore or junior year. His shooting and basketball IQ translate well to college basketball, where his role clarity and efficiency will be valued. Professional basketball remains possible if he continues developing his off-the-dribble game, but his skill set definitely positions him for a productive college career.

Know who you are. Be who you are. Love who you are. Be the best version of you that you can possibly be. If you know you’re not the best version you then work until you get there then work even more to be better. #CoachGravesSr
